October 2013: Herschel Museum of Astronomy, Bath
The Herschel Museum of Astronomy is delighted to announce that it is working with QR Languages to provide a new system of interpretation throughout the museum. This will eventually offer information about the exhibits in a variety of languages and a special tour of the museum geared for younger visitors.
Initially, in view of the ever increasing number of Chinese tourists, QR Languages and The Herschel have created a Simplified Chinese tour as their first step towards making the museum accessible for international visitors and put us firmly on the map for increasing numbers of tourists. We hope that in a short time we will be able to offer up to ten further language options.
A discreet QR Languages label works with a smartphone or tablet allowing the information to be read in the language of choice. Whilst audio tours and guide books continue to have a place in interpretation, this new collaboration will be of huge benefit for the international audience and will be a fun and exciting way for children to navigate the museum. The system also has the flexibility to allow us to develop special trails for younger visitors and we are looking forward to exploiting the full potential of the technology with the guidance and expertise of QR Languages.
